According to GSS 2018 dataset, the average age of respondents when first married is 22.15 years old with a standard deviation of 4.885. This means that on average people are 4.885 years younger or older than 22.15 years old when first married. The median reported as 21 means the age of 21 is the middle number among all responses. The mode is 21, which means most American people first got married at the age of 21. The skewness is 2.104, far away from 0, meaning the distribution is positively skewed. The range is reported as 78: some people first got married as early as when they were 21, while some got married when they are 90 years old.

According to the GSS 2018 dataset, 51.4% (more than half of its respondents) reported their highest degree as a high school diploma. Next came those with a partial high school education at 21.0%, a Bachelor’s degree at 14.7%, Graduate school at 7.3%, and finally Junior college as the lowest percentage of 5.7%.

According to the GSS 2018 survey, since 1972, there has been a total of 64814 participates. 52.7% of the respondents are married, which equals to 34,129 people. 9.6% of the respondents are widowed, 6200 people. 12.9% of the respondents are divorced, which equals to 8,379 people. 3.5% or 2,242 people are separated, and 21.4% or 13,837 of the respondents were never married.
